We do not wake up one day with chronic Anxiety. It is a repeated sequence of responses to stressors- a combination of our emotions, thoughts, and our behaviors.
According to Dr. David Burns, both anxiety and fear result from our thoughts, but healthy fear isn’t distorted. It is the valid perception of danger. Anxiety ALWAYS results from distorted thinking.
When we talk about Anxiety, there is usually a theme about a threat to our safety or well-being in the future.
We are stuck in a debilitating feedback loop between our fears and our avoidance/reasurrance seeking behaviors, and we CANNOT STOP.
